East canyon joins with Immigration Canyon in the Wasatch Mountains. It was the route of the first wagon train of Mormon Pioneers in 1947 into the Salt Lake Valley.
This is a small oil painting painted on site in 1963, looking up East Canyon during a snow storm with snowflakes falling on the palate. The painting is very realistic, and what it lacks in color is made up for by the intensity of the scene.
On the left side of the highway it shows the evidence of a wild fire, with the remnants of burned trees. The road served as a fire-break to prevent further damage in the canyon.
