Female Torso

$0.00Price

The ideal female torso was created from life by Avard T. Fairbanks, Ph.D. in 1957.  The model was a 20-year-old student from Brigham Young University who had a perfectly-proportioned body; she considered her figure to be her “gift to the world.”

At Brigham Young University, life art courses were forbidden; the models were required to wear leotards, not allowing the full nude to be observed.  As a result, she decided to pose in the nude for life courses at the University of Utah, both in the sculpture department and in the art department.  Recalling the model personally from my art life drawing course, I noted that the sculptor (my father) performed a reduction on the size of her breasts on the sculptured torso.

The smaller breast size was more in vogue during the 1920s and 1930s when Avard T. Fairbanks created most of his elegant figure studies, and he took his artist’s prerogative to sculpt smaller breasts as he saw fit.

This classic female torso can be made available for purchase in a postmortem bronze casting.
