General Thomas J. Jackson ("Stonewall Jackson")
This is an oil painting by Grant R. Fairbanks, M.D. of the brilliant Confederate General who never lost a battle in the Civil War. At the first Battle of the Bull Run with musket balls flying past him, one Confederate Officer exclaimed, “Look, there’s Jackson, standing like a Stone Wall!” Jackson turned the fleeing Confederate troops around and, with some additional troops, he drove the Federal Army from the field for an astounding Confederate victory. This ensured that the Civil War would continue. Another route of Union forces occurred at Chancellorsville due to Jackson’s brilliant strategy. He knew how to win battles without losing the lives of his troops.
No General on either side surpassed him in this regard. Unfortunately, he was shot by his own troops when returning from the battle line at Chancellorsville. He lost an arm, and one week later he died.
