This portrait painting of the first U.S. President by Grant R. Fairbanks, M.D. is a copy of the painting made from life by the American artist, Gilbert Stuart. The original painting was never finished and it hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. It is from this painting that so many images of George Washington have been made, including the steel engraving that appears on the one-dollar bill.

Although a Giclee lacks the surface texture of the original oil painting, when framed, and on the wall, it will appear to be identical. High-quality reproductions of museum-quality will last almost indefinitely without significant fading.
- Original oil paintings may be obtained by commission from the artist; however, due to time and effort required, they come at a significantly higher cost than the Giclee.
