Christ for Jerusalem Bronze Statue
This is a small maquette of standing Jesus with his right hand open and his left held to his chest, creating an imploring divine imperative to the viewer.
It was created by Avard T. Fairbanks, Ph.D. in 1960. This 28-inch-tall sculpture is the working model for a proposed colossal statue to have been erected in Jerusalem at an appropriate location – preferably the Garden of Gethsemane.
Avard Fairbanks had grandiose ideas and would create statuary, even when he did not have a dedicated patron to fund such a large statue. He felt sure that eventually he would come forward to provide financial support to create and erect this Christ as a colossal statue. Although the site was within the Country of Jordan at the time, he believed that the tourism it would help generate would make it a profitable undertaking. He, in fact, plans to visit with the King of Jordan in 1961. Although he had made other representations of Jesus Christ, this standing working model is unique and has a particular appeal that portraits lack.
It can be made available cast in bronze, resin, or cast stone for interested parties
