Head of Jesus Christ - 1955
This represents an undated work by Avard T. Fairbanks, sculptor, of a classic portrait of Jesus Christ in contemplation. It was created during the Utah Period circa 1950. It reflects much of the thoughts and feelings that people have when they think of Jesus Christ, his life, and his works.
The sculptor originally created a colossal head of Jesus Christ which he intended to be for a statue for Jerusalem. However, the Colossal head of Jesus was on loan for an exhibit in a building in downtown Salt Lake City.
Unfortunately, the original plaster was left there for too long, and someone, unthinkingly, broke it up in order to move it out, and the broken pieces were hauled off to the dump. This is the unfortunate fate of many valuable works of art.
The existing life-size head of Jesus can be made available in a postmortem bronze casting or in cast stone for interested parties
