Madonna and Child Marble Statue
Madonna and Child by Avard T. Fairbanks PhD Sculptor
This is a larger-than-life marble carving of the Madonna & Child in Portuguese Rose Marble which he created in Pietrasanta, Italy in the 1960's. It is in the classic gothic style. He gave it to his son Grant R Fairbanks who had it is his home for many years.
Monsignor MacDougal of the Catholic Church in Utah saw it on a visit to Dr Fairbanks home and expressed an interest in it; therefore it was donated to the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City by Grant R. Fairbanks, M.D. where it stands today in the baptistry labeled as “Our Lady of Zion.” It was accepted by Monsignor Manion. They held a special dedication service for the sculpture donation at the cathedral to which family members were invited.
This is shown as gallery exhibit only, a marble carving copy is not available.
