The male torso was created in 1953 when Avard T. Fairbanks, Ph.D., was Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah.
Like the female torso, the male torso was created for students to observe and copy in their sculpture courses. Human anatomy I an essential part of a sculptor’s education. The male torso was used together with other accurate anatomic works which were created during from the Michigan Period, and displayed in the sculpture classroom for students to copy.
While anatomically accurate, the male model is generic; it was created from life from an unidentified model.
Postmortem castings in bronze of the male torso can be made available for purchase.
Artwork Medium
- All reproduced sculptured works of Avard T. Fairbanks are postmortem.
- The mediums are Bronze, cast Stone, Marble, or Resin. Produced from the sculptor’s original model, each bronze casting is professionally produced and followed throughout the casting process by one of Avard T. Fairbanks’ original assistants (his son).
- This includes retouching the wax, chasing the bronze, and selecting the patina to ensure that each piece is of museum collectable quality.
