The Marcus Whitman Memorial was commissioned by the State of Washington as their contribution to Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. in 1948. Marcus Whitman was an early Medical Missionary to the Indians in the Pacific Northwest.
The Whitman mission to the Indians was close to Walla Walla, Washington. He was instrumental in saving both the Oregon and Washington Territories for the United States.
The bronze casting of the small working model can be made (postmortem) available for purchase.
