This is an oil painting by Grant R. Fairbanks, M.D., made in 2025. It is a close copy of Gordon Grant’s rendering of a medieval warship in his book “Ships Under Sail.” This painting is used as an illustration in a fictional novel by the author. It depicts crossing the English Channel, returning troops from the crusades.
It bears the cross of St. George on its flags and on its main sail. As with the Phoenician ship, it is directed using a large steering oar on one side.

Although a Giclee lacks the surface texture of the original oil painting, when framed, and on the wall, it will appear to be identical.
