Nursing Motherhood

This is one of the most admired of all of Avard T. Fairbanks’ works.  It shows a beautiful female figure kneeling and holding a nursing child.  It was initially carved in Serravezza marble in Florence, Italy, in 1928.

When Avard T. Fairbanks, PhD., returned to Italy after World War II, The Nursing Mother marble carving was retrieved.  It was shipped to the Springville Art Museum in Springville, Utah, where it is displayed.  It has been re-carved in Carrara white marble as well as in Portuguese Rose Marble.  A small marble carving of The Nursing Mother is available for purchase.
