Pele
Pele is the last of the mythical figure studies to be created by the sculptor. Pele was created in 1974 and was in the clay (plasteline) when the sculptor, Avard T. Fairbanks, PhD. died in 1987. It was subsequently rescued, restored, and cast in bronze. It is a figure study which is anatomically correct but not made directly from the nude model.
As Avard T. Fairbanks’ doctoral degree was in anatomic design, this clearly represents ideal proportions of human anatomy in a swirling motion of flame. It has been cast in bronze and is available for purchase.
