Percheron Stallion
This is a statue of a giant horse from the Verherran Farms in Michigan, modeled from life, by Avard T. Fairbanks, sculptor, in 1939. In a newspaper article featuring this statue in the Ann Arbor News, it stated the statue was intended for the Michigan State College, later to become Michigan State University. The statue is an accurate portrayal of a Percheron Stallion named Obuzier.
Percherons and Clydesdale are the largest horses known to exist. In the center of the base of the statue is an imprint of the horse’s shoeprint which is over twice the size of a normal horseshoe by comparison. A bronze premortem casting of this statue was donated to Michigan State University by Grant R. Fairbanks, M.D. A postmortem bronze casting can be made available for purchase.
