President Abraham Lincoln - Colossal Head #2
This is a bronze casting of a second colossal portrait of Abraham Lincoln by Avard T. Fairbanks, Ph.D., sculptor, created in 1963. It varies slightly from the prior colossal portrait bust – in the expression and in the position of the hands and the “collar.”
This work is not in the full round as the back part of the head is missing. It is intended to rest against a flat surface. Four marble heads of Lincoln in varies stages of his life were also carved in marble and given by the sculptor to his son, Grant R. Fairbanks. These marble busts he donated to the Ford Theater in Washington, D.C., where Lincoln was assassinated. One of these heads subsequently found its way to the Supreme Court Building.
Postmortem bronze castings of the second Colossal Head of Lincoln can be made available for purchase.
