Primavera Bronze Statue - 1928
Primavera by Avard T. Fairbank
This was the first of three attractive figure studies by Avard T. Fairbanks in the spring time theme, the other two are "The Unfolding" and "Della Terra".
Primavera (New Spring) is a standing female human figure representing the Spring Theme. Primavera means “New Spring.” This was created in Florence, Italy by Avard T. Fairbanks in 1928, and a life-size marble (black and white photo) carving was made.
It was left in Italy by my father after he completed his Guggenheim fellowship when he returned to the United States to join the faculty of the University of Michigan.
When my father went back to Italy after World War II to find it, the marble carving had, unfortunately, been lost. Efforts to find it have proven futile.
The small working model (color/bronze photos) with its elongated lower extremities, however, has been cast in bronze.
