Rain - 1933
Rain is one of the sculptor’s representation of natural phenomena using a beautiful human female figure. It is typical of the Art Deco style in American art. It was created in 1933 using a live model at the University of Michigan. The kneeling female figure wears a helmet with multiple splines, each of which represents one of the colors of the rainbow.
This statue has been copied and cast, but the copies do not approach the quality of the original. One of the original bronze castings from Roman Bronze in New York City went to Brookgreen Gardens at Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and has been on display since the 1930s. Other castings had been made during the sculptor’s lifetime. A postmortem casting in bronze is currently available for purchase as an exquisite life-size garden statuary.
