Shell Boy - 1933 - Bronze
The Shell Boy statue was modeled from a pre-adolescent male youth holding a large shell which, when cast in bronze, becomes a centerpiece of a working fountain. Properly plumbed, it will provide rivulets of water flowing from each undulation of the shell.
It was made in 1933, sculpted from a live model. Multiple castings were made during the sculptor’s lifetime, one of which is also in Brookgreen Gardens, national sculpture gardens. The Shell Boy won the Gold Medal at the North American Flower Show in Detroit, Michigan, in 1936. A postmortem life-size casting can be made available for purchase.
