The Pioneer Family Statue, Capital Grounds, Bismarck North Dakota
Capitol Grounds, Bismarck, North Dakota
This is a monumental heroic-size four-figure statue, with the mother holding a child, the son holding a wagon wheel, and the father in the center as the highest figure. It was created by Avard T. Fairbanks, Ph.D., Sculptor, for the State of North Dakota in 1946, when he was Professor of Sculpture at the University of Michigan.
This heroic monument was created in Avard’s studio on the University of Michigan Campus, which was the giant auditorium of Old University Hall. It was dedicated on the Capitol Grounds in 1947. It is an imposing statue to commemorate the pioneering effort in North Dakota. Appropriately, it stands on the grounds of the State Capitol.
The small working model is not available for reproduction.
This artwork is not reproducible, it is not for sale. We are showing this U.S. historical artwork of Avard T. Fairbanks as a gallery exbibit.
