The Riveters Bronze Statue - 1944
A two-figure statue was created by Avard T. Fairbanks, Ph.D. when he was Professor of Sculpture at the University of Michigan. He had a side-job in the Public Relations Department at the Willow Run Bomber plant where they were producing B24 four-engine heavy bombers. Professor Fairbanks would take guided tours of various dignitaries through the bomber plant. It is noteworthy that he also created a statue depicting a portion of the fuselage of a B24 bomber with two workers and their machinery on either side of the fuselage plate or section, one male and one female.
This was featured in the magazine FORD TIMES in November 1944 where Dr. Fairbanks, dressed in his smock, was completing the sculpture work on the statue. There is a significant genre piece of art from the World War II period.
It can be made available for casting in bronze for interested parties.
