Venus on the Wave by Avard T. Fairbanks

This figure study was created in 1978 by the sculptor, Avard T. Fairbanks, again depicting the “Venus” theme. Venere Sull'onda (Venus on the Wave) deviates from the usual view of the birth of Venus arising out of a giant clam shell; nevertheless, it depicts Venus being transported on a wave as “Born from the Sea,” to the Isle of Cyprus.

This particular work was carved once in marble in Pietrasanta, Italy.  The current location of the marble carving is unknown.  It is an elegant work of art with a strong sense of motion with the wave form combined with the lazy-S curve and the perfectly-proportioned female figure.

It can be made available in bronze casting, resin, cast stone, or it can be sent to Italy to be – once again – carved in marble at a significantly greater time and expense.
